In our hectic daily rush between work, commuting and family obligations, stress and fatigue can quickly build up. How can we offer our bodies a moment of express recovery to regain vitality and productivity?

Try the power-nap !

Let’s follow in the footsteps of the great thinkers. Einstein called a nap his “little gymnastics”, which helped him solve problems. Salvador Dali, for his part, used to doze off in an armchair with a spoon in his hand, and when the spoon fell over, he’d wake up and start painting. This power-nap increased his creativity tenfold. Napping for a few minutes in the middle of the day has many virtues.

the benefits of power-nap

The power-nap, which consists of relaxing for a very short time (from 1 to 20 minutes), has many benefits: it increases employee productivity and creativity by 35% according to Nasa (May 2015); it also improves attention and vigilance capacities. Power-nap reduces the risk of fatigue-related accidents in the workplace. It reduces stress and blood pressure, improves the quality of night-time sleep and restores balance to the nervous system.

No more than 20 minutes!

To be effective, a power-nap should preferably be taken between 1 and 4 p.m. so as not to disrupt the night-time sleep cycle, and should not exceed 20 minutes, as beyond this we enter the deep sleep phase.
